Medical Marijuana in Hawaii
Hawaii became the first state to legalize medical marijuana by legislation in 2020, as opposed to a voter proposal. Governor Ben Cayetano of Hawaii signed Act 228 into law in 2000, allowing holders of medical cannabis cards to grow their marijuana or choose a caregiver to do so.
According to Hawaii state regulations:
Patient possession limits: At any given moment, the eligible patient and the primary caregiver may share four ounces of usable marijuana.
The plant's seeds, stalks, and roots are excluded from the definition of "usable marijuana". Seven marijuana plants, mature or immature, are the maximum number that may be grown at home.
