It was in 2010 when Gov. Jon S. Corzine signed the law legalizing medical marijuana into law, that Garden State became one of the greenest states in the country. Medical cannabis programs in New Jersey are efficient, but they are also expensive.

The question did not specify regulatory rules or structure, so it may take a year or longer for the licensure system or dispensaries to be set up after the passage of this ballot question. Currently, residents of Garden State who wish to benefit from medical cannabis may do so without facing any penalties until the new legislation becomes law.
If no additional taxes are passed on legalizing recreational cannabis in New Jersey, it will likely have the lowest cannabis tax of any state in the United States. Cannabis purchased for recreational use will be subjected to a 6.625% state sales tax rate and a 2% municipal tax rate where applicable.
