Why Is Delta 8 Not Available On Amazon? Amazon and Delta 8

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Delta 8 has recently gained popularity in the hemp sector. Oddly, a huge corporation like Amazon doesn't stock Delta 8 products given the high demand for them. On Amazon, you can find anything, right?

Amazon has specific guidelines about the products that their retailers are permitted to offer. One of these prohibited subgroups includes Delta 8 THC. We'll go over the specific restrictions placed on Delta 8 by the reseller agreement with Amazon and explain why they don't permit it on their platform.

Amazon’s Product Policy

Amazon didn't get where they are acting irresponsibly. Amazon has advertised itself as a reliable company with quick shipment over the years.

Amazon's product policy clearly outlines which products are allowed and which ones are not. They can guarantee the integrity of the brand they've developed by maintaining strict control over the products that are accepted into the Amazon marketplace.

The following categories are part of Amazon's merchandise policy:

  • Food & Beverage
  • Medical Devices
  • Cosmetics & Skin Care
  • Fine Art
  • Composite Wood Products
  • Electronics
  • And more!

It makes sense for Amazon to establish particular requirements for the sale of these goods. If someone were ill or hurt after using a product they bought on Amazon, it would ruin their reputation, cost them money in lawsuits, and maybe get them in hot water with the federal government.

Why Delta 8 THC is Banned on Amazon?

Many of these product restrictions can be regarded as being excessively cautious because Amazon is so protective of its brand.

For instance, Amazon prohibits the use of laser pointers. Despite their widespread use and accessibility, Amazon does not let laser pointers on its marketplace.

This is logical. Laser pointers can be dangerous if used improperly, even though they are typically safe when used correctly. It only takes one kid to point it at an airplane or directly into someone's eye for Amazon to face serious issues.

It makes sense that Amazon wouldn't permit these kinds of things on their site even if hemp products and Delta 8 THC don't present the same kind of risk that a laser pointer does.

The US federal government considers marijuana to be a restricted substance, and only recently permitted the production and distribution of industrial hemp. The Delta 9 THC content is the only thing that distinguishes industrial hemp from marijuana, therefore Amazon would have to rely on its vendors to be honest about it.

Every Delta 8 THC gummy or CBD product that enters Amazon's warehouse can't be tested. One hemp product they sell with more than 0.3% Delta 9 THC could cause Amazon major issues.

Amazon could face serious criminal charges for the sale and distribution of a banned narcotic due to its extensive distribution network.

Amazon’s Policy on Hemp

The exact policy that Amazon has outlined is fairly comprehensive and covers a wide range of hemp-derived products.

This regulation is specifically listed in Amazon's section on drugs and drug paraphernalia. Subsection i. of the section "Drug Products and Ingredients" states the following:

Listings for products containing cannabidiol (CBD) are prohibited, including but not limited to:

  1. Full-spectrum hemp oil
  2. Rich hemp oil
  3. Products that have been identified as containing CBD by LegitScript (a certification program recognized by Google and Meta to vet advertisers for eligible CBD products)

CBD is a "products category" and not just a type of product for this section.

Any cannabinoid, including CBG, CBN, Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 THC, and the rest, will not be sold on Amazon's website. This prohibits the sale of anything other than cannabinoid-free hemp products. Amazon accepts hemp seed oil, hemp fiber, cosmetics containing hemp, and hemp apparel.

Will Amazon Sell Delta 8 Products in the Future?

Although it's impossible to be certain, they probably will in the future. Industrial hemp sales are now subject to far too many restrictions for them to get engaged. Amazon will probably want to participate in this expanding sector once the federal government starts to relax regulations.

Amazon is unable to keep up with all of the new small Delta 8 businesses and their testing methods. Numerous of these businesses make use of synthetic Delta 8 THC, which may be prohibited on its own.

Amazon also doesn't want to sift through the tens of thousands of pages of industrial hemp legislation that each state has enacted. Many of these laws change frequently enough that it would take a lot of effort and money for Amazon to keep up with them all.

CBD is hardly a drop in the ocean of Amazon's revenue. They wouldn't even notice a difference in sales if they didn't allow CBD and other goods made from hemp.

Alternative Way of Getting Delta 8

Alternative solutions might be available to you if you're interested in getting Delta 8 THC products. You might be able to buy Delta 8 THC products from a nearby dispensary or online retailer, depending on where you live. These choices might provide products of a higher caliber and come from vendors with a better reputation. They might also be governed by stricter rules and control.

Conclusion

Amazon currently restricts the selling of Delta 8 products. We are hoping that Amazon will ease its policies in the future but till then you can try alternative ways of getting Delta 8 products.
